The Future of Newspapers – Charlie Rose

I thought this was a pretty interesting conversation about the future of newspapers. It’s almost 30 minutes long so I will recap it for those of you with a short attention span.

Walter Isaacson of Time Magazine wants newspaper/magazines to use a micro-payment system to charge for online content

Robert Thomson of the Wall Street Journal can’t stop grinning because WSJ actually has a successful business model and charges people to view online content

Mort Zuckerman of The New York Daily News is quick to point out that people who subscribe to the WSJ can claim it as a business expense. He also says that his paper would love to be the 2nd or 3rd one to try charging for online content, just not the first. His solution for declining ad-revenue: more efficient (not cheaper) printing presses.
