I would like to recommend Overheard in the Newsroom to anybody looking for some laughs, or for some insight into the mood inside newsrooms.

This blog is based on the same idea as the successful “Overheard in New York” blog, which resulted in a book by the same name.

On Overheard in the Newsroom you’ll be treated to hilarious conversations like:

Editor: “We call furlough ‘shore leave’ now.”

Reporter: “I thought it was mandatory undertime.”

Or this:

Reporter: “This lady on the phone wants to know if we know anything about an explosion in her area.”

Editor: “Tell her it was the Rapture and she got left behind.”

One-liners like this:

Reporter, looking up from his lede: “Does anyone have any good ‘elephants having sex’ puns?”

And then there are revealing insights like:

Editor: “We don’t have time for journalism anymore. We’re too busy putting out the paper.”
